Richmond
Two weeks ago, Jeff had Spring Break. Given how close we are to so many cities, we decided to go a couple hours down the road to Richmond, VA and spend one night there. I ended up getting sick so it put a bit of a damper on the time, but we still enjoyed the couple days we were there! We did some shopping, good eating and just enjoyed being in a different place for a little bit!
I didn't get many pictures while we were gone, but one of the highlights for the girls, of course, was the hotel pool! We had the pool all to ourselves which was great!

Baskets
Baskets work great for keeping toys and books in...
...are great for climbing on...
...and climbing in!
Numbers
Addysen LOVES numbers. She counts absolutely everything. We'll be reading a book and she'll want to stop and count whatever is on the page...for example, when reading about Noah, she'll stop on each page and say "Let me count the animals. One, two, three..." and proceeds to count all the animals on each page. It cracks me up since clearly numbers are dear to my heart also. :-)
Now we're working on recognizing the numbers so I bought a little puzzle game that has 20 "mini" puzzles where she can count the number of pictures on a puzzle piece and then matches up the picture puzzle piece that she's counted with the corresponding number. She loves doing this "game"...she gets to count over and over!
And then of course, typical Addysen, once she connects the correct puzzle pieces, she lines up the attached puzzles in a perfect line. :-)

Dinner for Elmo
One afternoon, Addysen decided that it was time for Elmo to eat dinner and she proceeded to bring up all this food (making about 15 trips up and down the stairs to get more food), settle Elmo into her booster seat and cut up and feed him his grand meal. Clearly Elmo has quite the appetite. :-)
(even pretzels needed to be cut up for Elmo...ha!)
Haven was very interested in what Addysen was doing and wanted to get in on the action too! She caught Elmo mid-bite. :-)

Addysen"isms"
A few weeks ago, Jeff and Addysen were playing with a ball inside. The ball started getting thrown a little too hard and far for "inside play" so I asked them to stop. Jeff threw the ball again and it hit something in the kitchen. I asked Addysen if Daddy should go to a time out and very emphatically, Addysen said "Daddy doesn't go to time out! He's too big!"
We often have pretty strong wind here in Lynchburg. Addysen has started saying "I don't want to blow Haven [she'll insert whoever is around] away!" when we go outside and it's windy.

9 Month Stats
Haven had her 9 month visit last Wednesday, the 9th. She actually did quite well with the doctor since he let me hold her most of the time, but was not a happy camper with getting her weight and height checked. Fortunately those were short lived things though...nothing compared to the blood test they had to do after the appointment!! They did a standard 9 month anemia blood test (which results came back negative) and she absolutely hated every second of it! Not that I blame her...I had to try to hold her down so that they could pull what seems like a ridiculous amount of blood from a 9 month old by squeezing her finger the whole time to get it out. Ugh. As I was struggling to keep her restrained, the lab tech pulling the blood commented on how strong she was...um, yeah...you could say that again!
And, on a side note, I have successfully found out that Haven is a good bleeder...and does not follow the "she'll stop bleeding by the time you get to the car and you can take the bandaid off" rule. Holy cow did I have a lot of laundry to do that day...blood all over my outfit, 2 of Haven's outfits, sheets, bumper in her crib, carpet, kitchen floor...yikes! Oh well...I'm just glad it's over with!
That all being said, Haven is growing very "normally" and following the growth curve for babies nicely and no concerns were raised during the well visit so I'm thankful! Her current 9 month stats are:
Height - 27 inches (25-50th percentile)
Weight - 18 lbs, 12 oz (50-75th percentile)
Head - 18 1/4 inches (90th percentile)
And, on a side note, I have successfully found out that Haven is a good bleeder...and does not follow the "she'll stop bleeding by the time you get to the car and you can take the bandaid off" rule. Holy cow did I have a lot of laundry to do that day...blood all over my outfit, 2 of Haven's outfits, sheets, bumper in her crib, carpet, kitchen floor...yikes! Last week, Haven turned 9 months! This is such a fun age...full of constant exploration, learning new things and accomplishing new milestones...we are just loving seeing her develop each day (though time is going way too fast...we wish she would slow down!!)!

Haven keeps us on our toes! She is on the move all the time now! She crawls very quickly and when she sees something she wants, she has more determination than many adults to accomplish her goal! Really, there is no point in just moving something in a different area that she wants...you have to move it completely out of reach, otherwise she'll keep pursuing it! :-)
It's amazing to me that we have all these toys and yet, Haven instinctively knows what things she's not supposed to have...and those are the things she's determined to get! She's completely in love with shoes (but at this age, she's in love with eating shoes...ew!) and sunglasses (also not real safe!). She also likes the remote, coffee cups, trash bags...basically anything she's not supposed to have. :-)
We laugh because you can hear Haven crawling from a mile away. As she crawls, it sounds like she's slapping the floor so hard...she reaches up and then slaps the ground as she moves...it's pretty funny.
Haven wants to climb up on anything and everything and is starting to pull herself up onto things. She's climbed on top of the water bottle package, into her car seat, into the toy baskets and on top of the trampoline to name a few. The problem is that once she gets on / in those things, she doesn't realize she can't just crawl right down...a little concerning when she's on things like the trampoline...she thinks she can crawl right off!
It's been fun to see Haven's personality develop...and to see similarities and differences from Addysen's personality. Addysen has been and still is very reserved initially and sits back and analyzes everything before she'll venture into a situation with people or things she's not familiar with. Haven, on the other hand, will jump right into the situation...never even considering how big the other kids are or what else is going on! Prime example...yesterday at the library story time for kids Addysen's age, they brought out toy baskets for the kids at the end. Addysen sat back with us and looked at all the baskets, looked at what the kids were doing and tried to figure out what she wanted to do. Haven on the other hand, took off crawling toward a basket the second they put them down and climbed up to get blocks out...never considering all the big kids Addysen's age that were all surrounding the baskets trying to get the same toys out.
As wild and crazy as our little Haven can be, she has such a sweet spirit. She often will snuggle into our shoulders and she has started patting Jeff and I on the shoulder when we pick her up...it's just precious. I've also noticed that she tends to be much more sensitive to the tone of my voice than Addysen was / is. If I tell her "no" in a firm voice, she'll often get this very sad face and start crying...like she's so sad to disappoint me. And while she won't cry long when she falls or gets hurt, she cries easier than Addysen does...and just wants a little comfort each time.
Haven's laugh is so different from Addysen's...but just as precious. She smiles a lot and lights up the room every time she does. She still loves to squeal...showing when she's most excited. And she loves to be tickled...and loves when I touch her nose and say "boop!" (though she loves it even more when Addysen does this!)
Haven just started playing peek-a-boo herself...pulling a blanket or her B over her head to "hide" from us and then pulls it down herself. When she pulls the blanket over her head to "hide", she'll squeal from under the blanket...so excited at the anticipation of pulling it off...and then starts laughing when she pulls it off and we say "peek-a-boo!" So precious.
Haven used to fall asleep with me every night when I would nurse her before bed. She still does this sometimes, but often we will just have this very special time when she's done eating where she'll be as calm as can be laying in my lap, but wants to just have some calm play time. She'll laugh and laugh at anything I do or say and her eyes are lit up the whole time. Love that special time with her before bed.
We are so incredibly blessed with our precious little 9 month old! I just wish I could freeze time and stop it right at 9 months! Our sweet Haven doll is such a joy!!

Standing
Haven is SO busy these days! She just learned how to crawl and last week she learned how to climb and stand up while holding onto things. And it has not been a slow process...once she figured out how to stand, she now wants to stand up ALL the time! She is definitely keeping me on my toes!! Besides Jeff and me (and Addysen sometimes!) having become her human jungle gyms, she climbs on literally everything...
...her car seat (which is great for a baby who doesn't have great balance yet considering it rocks back and forth!)...
...the coffee table...
...the couch...
...her play center (which has a seat connected to it that designed for her sit / stand in and she can walk around the middle...but she wants to be out of it standing by herself next to it!)
...and the couch, just to name a few!
And just today, she started grabbing onto the couch and the coffee table...thought she'd try to take a stroll between the two. Didn't work out so great, but with how busy and determined she is, I'm sure that won't be too long now either!

Thanks to Abigail's visit and our new membership at a library here in town, Addysen has a renewed love for books! She used to love to read but recently was going through a phase where she just wasn't real interested in reading. I'm thrilled that she's back to loving to read!

In the middle of February (8 mos), we introduced a sippy cup to Haven. She's slowly figuring out how to use it (she thinks it's more of a toy than anything at this point I think!), but she looks like such a big girl holding her sippy cup!
