Fun Surprise

Jeff's Dad was recruiting in Las Vegas the last few days and ended up driving down to spend the evening with us before heading out to LA tomorrow! A short few hours together, but it sure meant a lot to have him here!!

Summer

It's July 25th in Phoenix....it's rained for the 5th or 6th day in a row....the parks are flooded again.....yesterday was the first day in 41 days where the high didn't even reach 100 degrees......and Jeff and I went on a walk in perfect temperature this evening - it must have been low 80's........is it really July in Phoenix??? We're loving it!!

Rain in Arizona

Last night (for the second night in a row!) it rained in Phoenix. Now, this may not seem like that big of a deal to some of you (especially those of you in the Northwest!), but in the desert, it's a big deal! :-) The problem here though is that it rains so rarely and so when it does, it immediately floods. These are some pictures of the park across the street from our house this morning - and this is after a decent amount of evaporation over night and this morning before I took these!

Our basketball court in the park was submerged!

Fortunately, this is not our tree...it's our neighbor's tree - completely uprooted! There are several on our street just like this - the wind was pretty strong!

A Real Review

Ok...so I have no idea what movie these "reviewers" went to see or what movie I had been reading about......Jeff and I went to see License to Wed tonight and I'm certain that couldn't be the movie these reviewers were giving such bad reviews of!! We thought it was really funny! Granted, I really enjoy Robin Williams humor as well as half of the cast of The Office that was also in this movie, but I thought it was really a good flick! This just proves why I typically don't listen to the reviews...most often I don't agree with them! I would highly suggest this movie just for a good, fun laugh!

Celery is like Carpet...

(yes...carpet)...is the revelation that Krista came to at her baby shower yesterday. You don't like or dislike either one...they're just there. :-) We had lots of laughs and a great time together celebrating Baby Carter who is due in August!

Ashley, Rachel and Krista...laughing...of course! :-)

Isn't this cool?!? Krista's sister Lisa's husband made this "bouquet" of fruit using cookie cutters! The yellow "flowers" are pineapple with the center a scoop of cantaloupe. The red "flowers" are watermelon.

We had a great, very "girly" lunch...scones, chicken salad, mandarin orange salad to name a few...numm! The funny thing was that we all sat down.......and no one sat next to Krista! :-) I think everyone was trying not to "hog" her time, but it turned out pretty funny when she was sitting all by herself at the end of the table! :-)

Lots of diapers and wipes...which to me looked like it would last forever, but those of us with no kids in the room were surprised to find out how short these huge boxes and bags would last!

Saturday

While Mom was at work, Dad and I went out for a bit this morning. We stopped at Aunt Peg's to have her help him hem some pants...and give me a lesson in hemming! :-)

Jeff, on the other hand, went on a 40 mile bike ride with Cornel - up to the Air Force, then downtown and then back to their car. This was Jeff after the bike ride... :-)

This afternoon we got together with one of my dear friends from highschool, Stephanie, and her husband, Kirby and son, Ben. We met at Chick-Fil-A so that Ben could play in the play area while we talked. He is such a cutie and it was so much fun to spend time with Stephanie and Kirby!

Walking!

Look at the smile on Grandma's face! Walking with no pain!!

Feeling GREAT!

After a long, extremely hard few weeks for Grandma, and a long day for everyone today, the surgery is now over! When we got up to Grandma's room, we asked how she was feeling...after weeks of the answer being "not too good" or "ok today"....we were thrilled when she said "GREAT!" with a big smile! We are so thankful that the Lord protected her during surgery today and that all went well and are praying for fast healing now. We sure love our Grandma!!!

4th of July

What food says the 4th more than grilled hamburgers, brots and watermelon?? Grilled out and ate on the porch...couldn't have done that in Phoenix on the 4th...it was 117 degrees! We were loving it!

This is not snow...it's hail! I'm sure it's because I live in Phoenix that I was so enthralled with this, but seriously...the hail was crazy! Colorado weather...it was beautiful outside and then all of a sudden clouded up and poured rain and hailed....

....then cleared up again for a beautiful night at the park for fireworks! This was the sunset we saw from Memorial Park over the mountains...gorgeous!

The ground was absolutely soaked because of the rain earlier. So...we brought garbage bags to lay on the ground under our blankets so we could try to stay somewhat dry!

Sweatshirts and jeans...little different than the attire in Phoenix right now!

Incline

Jeff climbed a mountain incline this morning with Cornel. He was harassing Cornel on the way over there that Cornel would have to keep up with him.

Cornel made it up in just over 30 minutes...

Jeff was not quite prepared for Colorado altitude...and was humbled when he made it up...huffing and puffing...in 40 minutes...

Surprise!

Consistent with our pattern lately of last minute trips...Jeff and I headed to Colorado yesterday. We left Phoenix at 4:30am and got into Colorado Springs at around 6pm. The trip went well (aside from some delays through Albuquerque) and we were glad to make it here!

Shortly after getting in, we headed over to Grandma and Grandpa's for dinner...the surprise was tha they didn't know Jeff and I were coming! :-) Mom and Dad went to the door and told them they brought their daughter and son-in-law...except to their surprise, it was Jeff and I; not Cornel and Natalie!

We had dinner with Grandma and Grandpa and then headed over to see Cornel and Natalie's new apartment (well...at least new for Jeff and I!). Great to be back in Colorado and with family!Mom made a great German chocolate cake for dessert...numm...

Grandma's mode of transportation around the house. Hopefully after her surgery tomorrow she won't need this anymore!
